6 nights/7 days
A gourmet week of exploring the culinary highlights of New Zealand’s North Island regions of Wellington, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay (otherwise known as New Zealand’s Fruit Bowl). This showcase of fresh regional produce will tantalise and inspire your palate and eyes as you are guided through beautiful dramatic scenery and quirky pockets of townships. Enjoy delicious gourmet meals ranging from vineyard platters to high end restaurant menus, wine tastings and winery visits, visits to provedores, meeting the locals, walks through vineyards and an art deco township, and leisure time to soak it all in. Luxury accommodation is comfortable and stylish with three locations throughout the week. Bedrooms have private ensuites. This upmarket tour has been designed for a boutique group of maximum 12 people to showcase what New Zealand has to offer in their culinary revelation.
ITINERARY (Please note it may be subject to minor changes)
Day 1: Arrival to Wellington with transport to your funky city hotel. Welcome Drinks at the hotel are followed by dinner in an award winning local bistro. Relaxing with great food.
Day 2: Half day tour of Wellington, finishing with a visit to the modern and informative Te Papa museum – an introduction to Maori culture for you to absorb during the week. Time to rest before a luxurious and sumptuous dinner with stunning views prepared by an award winning chef using local ingredients.
Day 3: Depart Wellington for a 1.5 hour drive to Martinborough in Wairarapa. This region is known for its farming, forestry and Pinot Noir wine. Free time to explore the township before visiting a couple of winemakers, experiencing a private barrel tasting and enjoying a platter lunch with wine tasting set in a vineyard. Late afternoon arrival to our accommodation in Greytown which is an upmarket boutique pub. Greytown is known for its galleries, shops and cafes. A unique special event is to be organised for your evening meal.
Day 4: Day tour of the region starts with visiting an interesting provedore before a return to the Martinborough area. We then visit lake Ferry for a fish and chips lunch and a view of the stunning Palliser Bay. Local activities are dependent on weather – picnic, cycling, walking, visiting wineries. Complete your day with a 3 course meal in our boutique pub dining room.
Day 5: Depart Martinborough and head for Hawke’s Bay, the region known as the Fruit Bowl and Home of Syrah and Chardonnay grapes. Start with a visit to Te Mata Lookout for 360 deg views of the area. Vineyards, ocean, hills…. Stunning. A local winery or two and then arrival to our private villa set in a vineyard with spacious areas to relax, walk, swim or nap before dinner served in our private dining room. This will be a chance to sample the excellent local produce: lamb, asparagus, rhubarb, apples, potatoes, herbs.....
Day 6: Free morning for leisure time before we head off for a half day tour of the area, including the Art Deco township of Napier and surrounding areas. Dinner in the township of Napier.
Day 7: Morning departure to Wellington for flights back home or for extended travel. Going south?!
